Toroidal Optical Dipole Traps for Atomic Bose-Einstein Condensates using Laguerre-Gaussian Beams
نویسنده
چکیده
We theoretically investigate the use of red-detuned Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) laser beams of varying azimuthal mode index for producing toroidal optical dipole traps in two-dimensional atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. Higherorder LG beams provide deeper potential wells and tighter confinement for a fixed toroid radius and laser power. Numerical simulations of the loading of the toroidal trap from a variety of initial conditions is also given. Cavity-enhanced toroidal dipole force traps for dark-field seeking species
Dipole force traps for dark-field seeking states of atoms and molecules require regions of low intensity that are completely surrounded by a brighter optical field. Confocal cavities allow the resonant enhancement of these interesting transverse mode superpositions, and put deep far-off-resonance traps within reach of low-power diode lasers. In this paper, we show how an array of dark-field rin...

Bose-Einstein condensates of sodium atoms have been confined in an optical dipole trap using a single focused infrared laser beam. This eliminates the restrictions of magnetic traps for further studies of atom lasers and Bose-Einstein condensates. More than 5 3 106 condensed atoms were transferred into the optical trap. Densities of up to 3 3 1015 cm23 of Bose condensed atoms were obtained, all...
متن کاملBose-Einstein condensates near a microfabricated surface.
Magnetically and optically confined Bose-Einstein condensates were studied near a microfabricated surface. Condensate fragmentation observed in microfabricated magnetic traps was not observed in optical dipole traps at the same location. The measured condensate lifetime was >or=20 s and independent of the atom-surface separation under both magnetic and optical confinement. Radio-frequency spin-...

The quantized vortex state is investigated in a Bose-Einstein condensate, confined in a multiply connected geometry formed by a Laguerre-Gaussian optical trap. Solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation variationally, we show that the criterium for vortex stability is that the interatomic interaction strength must exceed a critical interaction strength. The time evolution of a freely expanding Lague...

Given the tremendous impact of BEC research in last 7 years and the continued growth of the field, it is important to explore different methods for reaching BEC, particularly methods that offer new capabilities, simplicity, or speed. We have recently demonstrated such a method by creating a Bose condensate of Rb atoms directly in a crossed-beam optical dipole force trap using tightly focused CO...
